Cameco Announces Over $43,000 Raised for Local Mental Health Initiatives

Accepting applications for the Cameco Fund for Mental Health

(Port Hope, Ontario, Canada – November 23, 2021) – Cameco announced that the Cameco Charity Golf Package and the Virtual Step Up for Mental Health 5K event have raised over $43,000 for the Cameco Fund for Mental Health. The fund is now open for applications for organizations working on mental health initiatives in Northumberland County and area.

This year’s amount adds to the over $110,000 raised in 2019 and 2020 for a total of over $150,000 raised for the Cameco Fund for Mental Health.

“Our lives are heavily influenced by our mental health and funding for mental health initiatives can help make a positive difference for those in our community who need resources and support,” said Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco’s Fuel Services Division. “Once again the community stepped up for mental health and we are pleased with this year’s results.”

For the second year in a row, Cameco partnered with Dalewood Golf Club to offer the Cameco Charity Golf Package from August 1 to September 30, offering a socially distanced alternative to a traditional golf tournament. Cameco matched a portion of all player registration fees and matched all sponsorships at 100 per cent to raise a grand total of over $35,000. An additional $8,000 was raised from Ontario participants in the virtual Step Up for Mental Health 5K event held from October 1 to October 6.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in these two events,” said Clark. “We are grateful for all the participants and sponsors for making an impact in our local community.”

Sponsors for the Cameco Charity Golf Package included Assante Wealth Management, Lakeland Multi-Trade, New Amherst Homes, ZoElle Plumbing, HM Brooks, Diemo, MyFM, PacTec, Vout Welding, Project Lola, Lauria Auto Group, Work Authority, the Canadian Nuclear Association, and ATI.

The Cameco Fund for Mental Health is established through the Saskatoon Community Foundation. Applications for funding will be adjudicated by a panel that includes local mental health professionals and representatives from Cameco. The grant program is open to registered charities, non-profits, and organized groups. The deadline for online applications is 11:59 p.m. January 6, 2022.

All funds will be disbursed to organizations undertaking projects that promote or protect mental health in Northumberland County and area. Since 2019, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health has supported 15 local mental health initiatives.
