Cameco Fund for Mental Health Awards Grants to Six Northumberland County Organizations

(Port Hope, Ontario – January 15, 2021) - The Cameco Fund for Mental Health has awarded six grants to mental health projects that benefit Northumberland County. The projects range from mental health training to direct support for people struggling with mental health.

Now in its second year, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health was established to directly support organizations and groups that are working to address and support mental health in Northumberland County.

The funds were raised through the 2020 Cameco Charity Golf Package at Dalewood Golf Club which raised $38,118.39. An additional $5,381 was raised from employee fundraisers and other donations, bringing the total of the 2020 Cameco Fund for Mental Health to $43,500. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Cameco did not host its Step Up for Mental Health 5K fun run/walk event in Ontario.

“This past year has been really difficult for a lot of people and the challenges are impacting every demographic,” said Dale Clark, vice-president, Cameco Fuel Services Division. “Through this grant program, we are able to directly help make a difference and support the organizations and groups that are working hard to reach out and get mental health support to those who need it.”

Following a call for funding applications in November, submissions were adjudicated by a panel of representatives from Cameco, the health-care sector and Saskatoon Community Foundation, which is our grant partner.

The 2020 Cameco Fund for Mental Health Recipients are:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northumberland
  • Campbellford & District Community Mental Health
  • KBI Inspire Magazine
  • Port Hope High School
  • Canadian Mental Health Association (Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Branch)
  • Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation – Community Mental Health Services

“Thank you to all the applicants, the successful recipients and to all the organizations who are out there making a difference,” added Clark.
