Port Hope Conversion Facility Restarts

February 11, 2014

Cameco's Port Hope conversion facility has been authorized by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) to restart its uranium hexafluoride (UF6) plant following a two-week shutdown. Cameco shut the plant down on January 28, 2014 after manual intervention was required to bring the cell room into a safe shutdown state during the commissioning of new software in the plant. Cameco has identified and implemented interim corrective actions to ensure that the plant can be operated safely, thereby satisfying the CNSC's requirements for restarting UF6 production.

A root cause investigation is underway and the final report will be submitted to the CNSC in March 2014.
