Cameco to Conduct Joint Training Exercise with Port Hope Fire Department

Port Hope, July 24, 2012

A joint training exercise involving the emergency response team (ERT) at Cameco's Port Hope conversion facility and the Port Hope Fire Department (PHFD) will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, starting at approximately 6 p.m. This training exercise is being conducted in advance of a full-scale exercise planned for September 5, 2012.

A smoke machine will be utilized to simulate realistic conditions in an emergency. The smoke does not pose any risk to members of the public. Fire-fighting equipment from both organizations will be involved in the training exercise, which will include drawing water from the harbour. Cameco's ERT will control all water runoff, which includes covering catch basins and potentially deploying flood diversion dams.

It is expected that the exercise will be concluded by approximately 9:30 p.m.
