Cameco Assisting U.S. Department of Energy

September 5, 2014

In September 2014, a team of officials from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will be conducting a series of experimental security tests at the Port Hope conversion facility. Although most activity will be occurring on site, some elements of the program will have an off-site impact, such as overhead flights and temporary monitoring stations at various locations in the region. Specific details about the DOE project and technology involved are considered classified.

The project will be conducted over approximately four weeks. One of the key elements of the project will involve the use of an airplane, which will be surveying the Port Hope conversion facility property as well as other local areas. The plane will be flying at a height that should not inconvenience local residents and while there will be multiple flights, all but one will be occurring during daytime hours.
